The work is underway!
The work on the house is in full swing now. Three of the 4 sides of our roof have new underlayment and shingles on. They are working on the small roof between Kyle and Eve's rooms right now. Rain is predicted tomorrow so I'm guessing they won't start tearing off the south side of the roof until Friday.
Jason has been working hard on the kitchen. The old cupboards are gone and I'm THRILLED!!!! I was so happy to see them go. Our neighbor Gus came over to help with demolition and then came back to hang up new drywall. We owe him BIG! Our other neighbor Geoff is also pitching in and has helped out with mudding and taping. I think he's coming over tonight to sand and do another coat of mud. Jason's step-brother Mike has also been a huge help. Jason got the wiring and plumbing all done and ready to go. The new cupboards and countertop are ordered and I can't wait to see this all come together. Today's project is to pick a paint color for the room. I keep going back and forth between the colors and haven't been able to make up my mind. The entire layout of the kitchen is going to be different from before. We will have a 'L' shaped kitchen and the sink and fridge are both changing their location.
They expect that we'll need to be relocated around the 1st of the month. I was hoping they would wait until after the 6th because then Kyle would be done with school making it easier for us to be out of our routine. Oh well. Still not sure where we'll be going but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. We shouldn't be out of the house as long as I orginally thought so that's good news. Just long enough for them to install the new windows and paint the trim around them. From talking to the contractor is sounds like maybe 2 weeks at the most assuming we don't have weather delays.
I've been busy trying to get things cleaned up around here and organized so that our stuff will be out of the way when they go to do the windows. It's hard finding a place for everything though when each and every room will be having work done on it. I've been throwing things away left and right and it feels good to eliminate some of the clutter. Once the grant project is done and over and the inspections have taken place, etc. we'll switch our focus to removing the wall between the living room and the office. That'll be another big project but one I'm anxious to see happen. Can't wait to have more open space and a functional living room! I am more than happy to give up this office room to have a bigger living room. And let's be honest, making this house a 4 bedroom house instead of a 5 really isn't a big deal. Most families don't need a 5 bedroom house these days.
Well, I suppose I'd better get moving on my to-do list. Just wanted to give you all an update. :)
