remodeling progress
Thought I'd share the progress so far. It's a lot of work since it's all lath and plaster and I'm thankful that Jason has such a good buddy to help him out. Thanks Gus!!!! You can click on the picture to view it larger. Basically, they took the door off the bathroom and moved it to the doorway that led into the small hallway. Then they ripped down the wall that was the end of the bathroom. So we'll be gaining the hallway space as bathroom space. YAY!!! 2 bathrooms in this house and they are both so small. It wasn't working for me. It still won't be a huge room but it'll definitely be better. They also removed the door that led into the back bedroom and created a doorway in the entryway hallway which will now be the access into that room. (bottom pic) The old doorway will be closed in so that I'll have a nice long wall in the baby's room to place furniture on. All of the fixtures in the bathroom will be moved. (much to Jason's dismay) The sink will be placed in front of the old entrance to the bedroom, the toilet will move over to where the sink currently is and the shower will be replaced with a tub and surround. And still a shower too of course. It'll be SO much easier to bathe the baby in a regular tub than our deep clawfoot tub upstairs. I remember cursing that tub when Jenevieve was a baby. Not fun trying to hold onto a slippery baby while the side of the tub is up under your armpits. We actually discovered it was easier to just take a bath with her than it was to try to bathe her the standard way. Anyway, back to the project. All the paneling in the bathroom is going to be ripped off as well as the lath and plaster and all new drywall will go in there. Yay, one room with good walls in this old house! I'm looking forward to picking out paint colors and having a nice, new and modern bathroom. I stripped the wallpaper that was along the bottom of the hallway wall and will be painting in there. We saved the chair rail that was previously there so I think I'll do a darker color on bottom and lighter color on top to try to brighten up that space a bit. It doesn't look dark in the picture but it is. So, lots to do yet but this is what's done so far. I'll post more pics as more progress is made. :)
