great first day! (and second!!!)

I'm happy to report that Kyle had a fantastic first day at school. Although I think one of the things that most excited him was seeing his teacher from last year in the hall. He missed her. :)

Finding out about his day was like pulling teeth. He never likes to share his school information with boring old mom. LOL But when Grandma Cindy called man oh man could that boy talk!!!! At least I got to hear him discuss his day with someone. lol There's only one kid in his class that was in his kindergarten class last year. This will give him an opportunity to make new friends and still see his friends from last year at recess, lunch, etc.

This morning he woke up and happilly said "I can't wait to have another day at school!" Music to a mother's ears. Today was early out again so no lunch recess. Bums Kyle out. lol But tomorrow will be a full day and that means that he'll see his friends at recess. He's especially excited about the neighbor boy starting kindergarten. They'll have lunch recess together.

Kyle's after school attitude is a bit crabby today though. I think he's more tired than he wants to admit. I'm hoping that maybe he'll fall asleep on the couch while watching some cartoon. We'll see. Jenevieve wants to play since she's already had a nap today so she's not exactly helping the situation. Why can't I ever seem to get them on the same schedule? A losing battle I'm afraid.

Well, time to get some stuff done around the house. Jenevieve and I were gone most of the day so I didn't get a darn thing done while Kyle was at school. Oh well. Eve and I had fun at the mall shopping and having girl time. :)

Have a great afternoon and evening everyone!

First day of school!

Kyle is officially a first grader! Can you believe it????

I am happy to report that this morning went very well! No screaming, crying or yelling about not wanting to go. Instead Kyle woke up in a good mood and seemed quite excited about going. Yay!!! I'm anxious to hear about how the first day went. He'll have early dismissal today and tomorrow so he'll be home a bit sooner and can report on the day. :)
The only disagreement we had this morning was over what he wanted to wear to school. He didn't want to wear the clothes I'd picked and put together his own outfit instead. I took this as just another sign of him growing up and agreed to what he wanted to wear. It's a rainy first day of school, same as last year, so I only snapped a couple pictures as we headed out the door this morning. His backpack was bursting at the seams because they didn't have an open house night this year. Usually they are able to come in before school starts and bring in all their supplies, meet their teachers, etc. but because the teachers' contracts started late this year there wasn't time before school started. He seemed to manage the bulging bag just fine though. :)

Last night he had me write down his teacher's name and the room number on a piece of paper. Then this morning he put the paper in his pocket. As we drove up to the school I asked him if he wanted me to walk him inside and he said, "No Mom, I've got it. I have my paper. I can figure it out." (meaning the paper with the room number on it) So, my little man isn't so little anymore and already feels that he doesn't need me. (sniff, sniff) But it's also nice to see that he has confidence and isn't afraid to face new situations alone. He hopped out of the van with no fear and ran into the building. I hope today goes well for him. I'll post again later tonight after he's home and I get the scoop on his first day.
Jenevieve doesn't start school until after Labor Day so we have a bit of girl time together before then. Taking Kyle to school this morning got her excited about going back to school too. Although most of her comments are about how she can't wait until she starts kindergarten because she really wants to go to Kyle's big school. :)

weekend plans

Jason and the kids are going to try out the new pop-up camper tonight. Thankfully the weather has cooled off. It should be perfect for it. They are going with our neighbors to Scott County Park for one last summer camping night before school starts. I already had plans to go scrapbooking tonight so I'll be missing out on the fun. But a night out and away from the kids doesn't sound all that bad either. Being a stay-at-home mom is great but it's nice to have a break every now and then.

Grandma Notz called today and invited us to come up tomorrow afternoon for a bit so we'll be doing that. Jason has a hog roast to go to so it'll probably just be me and the kids but that's ok. Then on Sunday Kyle has a Cub Scouts pool party to attend. That should be a lot of fun since he gets to invite 2 additional families as well. So his buddy J.T. will be going and we're waiting to hear back on his other friend Jesse.

So with a busy weekend in store for us Monday will be here before we know it. I sure hope Kyle doesn't kick and scream about going to school too much. **crossing my fingers**

Jason put me in charge of loading up the van for them today so I better get started. I woke up with a horrible migraine (the kind that makes me sick to my stomach) so I'm trying to ignore the pain and get things done. It's so nice out today too that I'm bummed about the headache. I wish I could enjoy the day more.

I'll leave you with a layout I made yesterday of Julia and Jenevieve getting creative with paints.

couple new layouts

Just sharing a couple new layouts that I've done. :)
Farmer's Market Kit by Jen U.-KB and Friends and my Birthday Boy Kit

Betty Jo's Cherry Delight Kit by Betty Jo Martin-KB and Friends

Times Past Kit by Brenda Kempf-Scapbook-Bytes, Template also by Brenda Kempf, wordart and heart swirl from the Rekindle kit by Jen Wilson and the name tag is from the Lime Cordial elements also by Jen Wilson.
Kyle and I went and finished up our school shopping last night. It was fun to have a little one-on-one time with him before school starts on Monday. We went out to dinner together at Village Inn all I can say is THAT BOY CAN EAT!!!!!! LOL He downed his food in no time. And then asked for desert! I ordered him a half slice of cherry pie and he ate almost all of that too!
Earlier in the day I'd taken both kids to get their hair cut and I always think Kyle looks so much more grown up when his hair is super short. Jenevieve just got a trim so really not much difference on her.
Well, it's 9am and my lazy butt hasn't even showered yet. Time to get a move on! I'm thinking about taking the kids to the butterfly sanctuary in Bellevue today. We always have a good time there and it's a fun place to take pictures. Plus it's a MUCH cooler day so far so it's a good time to get out and do something. Have a great day everyone!!!!

Progress!

Progress is being made on the kitchen project and I'm so excited to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Jason spent the weekend working on the ceiling and installing the new light fixtures. There's still about half the room that needs tiles put up but at least there's a big stack of them that are painted and ready to go. So the next time he has a chance to work on it things should move along pretty quickly. Once the tiles are all up the only thing left will be the crown moulding. Yay!!! I'm so excited to have the kitchen be completed. After 3 1 /2 years of living with a torn up, no doors, no ceiling kitchen this is pretty major! :)
After the kitchen gets done we'll be moving on to Kyle's room. The carpet in there absolutely has to go. The darn dog has taken a liking to it and that totally grosses me out so we're going to tear it out. We'd like to put hardwood floors in there but we'll see what happens. Even if we just have the subfloor exposed for a while it'll be better than having nasty dirty carpet. Eventually I'd like Jason to build a large storage unit for in Kyle's room but I know that'll be costly so I'm not sure if I'll be able to talk him into doing it all at once or not. I have so many projects and dreams for this old house and it's hard to not be in a financial position to do them all. I'm hoping to get Jenevieve's bed painted today and work some more on removing the wallpaper border in her room so that I can put up the new, more grown-up border. It'll be fun to give her room a mini-transformation. Best part...no wall painting required! LOL

Once all the above projects get done then it'll be time for the big living room remodel. I can't wait! After the kitchen project is finished I plan on starting a mini scrapbook album of all the work we've done to this house.
Tomorrow is school registration day so I'll be getting Kyle signed up for first grade. He has already screamed at me and told me that he's not going back to school and that I can't make him. Not exactly the back-to-school attitude I was hoping for. The first day of school should prove challenging. :(

Kyle's first day is exactly one week from today. Jenevieve's preschool doesn't start until September 5th. I'm anxious for them to go back to school and get back into a routine around here. Everything is so off schedule during the summer.

Well, I need to get my butt in gear and get working on her bed. Have a fantastic day everyone and here are a few of my latest scrapbook pages if you're interested.
